COMPANY
JIB, Japan International Broadcasting, was established in 2008 to enhance the delivery of information from Japan to the world. Our shareholders include the NHK Group, private broadcasters, trading companies, and organizations from the information, communications, and financial industries—a collective effort uniting businesses from various sectors across the country. With this broad-based support, we continue to embrace new challenges.
We deliver NHK World JAPAN (English) and NHK World Premium (Japanese) to the world via satellite and the internet. We also produce content in multiple languages, including English. Our team of approximately 100 dedicated professionals works daily to uphold our mission of excellence in international broadcasting.
Last year, Japan welcomed a record-breaking number of international visitors: nearly 37 million. Travelers are exploring every corner of the country, underscoring the importance of sharing the appeal of Japan’s regions with the world. By leveraging our global network, JIB actively responds to this need, contributing to the growth of inbound tourism.
Looking at the world, the tectonic shifts brought about by the wars in Ukraine and Gaza seem to have accelerated in the same period as the change of leadership in various countries. The question arises: What path will Japan take in this evolving international landscape? As the world navigates these turbulent times, I sense a growing global interest in Japan.
This year marks 100 years since broadcasting began in Japan and 80 years since the end of World War II.
NHK aims to help build a society in which people can live in peace and prosperity. Contributing to the development of a healthy democracy is an important goal. As a member of the NHK Group, JIB aims to communicate to the world flexibly but steadfastly in this rapidly changing environment.
